5 Rules to Consider to Make Your Weight Loss Competition a Success

weightloss wars
1 – Consider Requiring weekly weighins but allow a few misses - Research has shown that overweight people who track their weight on an ongoing basis are more likely to lose weight, lose it faster, and keep it off longer. Accountability folks! That said, it’s a good idea to allow competitors to miss a couple weighins so that they don’t just give up and drop out of the contest just for missing one week.

2 – Consider Requiring Members to write a note on the competition wall regularly - Requiring members to write on the wall once, twice, or even 7 times per week is a great way to get people talking. They can write a word of encouragement, some trash talk, or a nice health or fitness tip. Talking smack and encouragement isn’t just fun, though! Studies have concluded that they are effective. Mixing some smack talk with some supportive encouragement among competitors will help you get the most out of weight loss wars.

3 – Consider Allowing People to Join up to 3 weeks after the Competition Kicks Off - It’s always best to get as many people to join at the beginning of the competition, but realize that some people take a little while to make up their mind. Some people who also would not have considered joining the biggest loser contest will see how much fun, excitement, and especially weight loss that is happening that they simply won’t be able to stay out of it. Let them join and they’ll just have to make up the ground they’ve missed out on during the time they weren’t in the competition.

4 – Consider requiring before and after shots with a secret word - As time passes and members of the competition get going on their weight loss, you may forget exactly how a certain employee looked before starting. Requiring a before and after shot will make it easier for you to determine if someone is trying to fudge on the numbers. Set a secret word that they’ll write on a sheet of paper for their photograph but don’t tell them the word until a few days before. That way they won’t be able to use old pictures or any other funny business like that. Help keep them honest so that everyone can trust the biggest loser challenge will be fair.

5 – Consider choosing a team competition - Team biggest losers help competitors to lose weight from several angles. Utilize team support, team peer pressure, and a united team spirit to conquer opposing teams. These all combine to help the true spirit of teamwork, competition, and the energy and fun of a good ole battle to help everyone lose as much weight as possible.
